Jealousy The Green-Eyed Monster - 1576 Words
â€Å"Jealousy is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on’’ (III.iii.165-167). Othello: The Moor of Venice is a play by Shakespeare that presents the theme of human relationship: jealousy. Jealousy often has no real basis, usually the loved one is faithful, but the lover interprets all evidence in the sense of being cheated. The protagonist Othello is the general of the armies of Venice respected by all those around him. In the first act a dispute between Desdemona and her father, Brabanzio the Venetian senator, arises because she marries Othello without consulting him. Othello is considered inferior because he is a great warrior. Othello’s career seems promising as he is sent to Cyprus as the new governor with his wife Desdemona. Despite Othello’s successes, his self-esteem seem to be fragile and he feels as an outsider thought-out the play. The conflict of the play starts when Othello promotes Cassio and not Iago, his lieutenant tha t takes the role of the antagonist. Iago feeling disparaged, started a psychological warfare spreading rumor to make his superior, Othello believe his wife and Cassio are having an affair. The jealousy of Othello, fed by the tricks of Iago, grows up to be paranoia. The play is a game in which Iago gets his peculiar revenge. Both the protagonist and the antagonist are over taken by jealousy. As a result jealousy drives Othello as well as Iago to their downfall destroying the lives for those whom they once care for. The Dietary Analysis Helped Me Become More Aware Of Me...
1. How did the Dietary Analysis affect your understanding of your current health? Did you identify any particular habits that may be increasing your risk for chronic diseases? The Dietary Analysis helped me become more aware of me current health. Because I am on the go most of the time, I find it very easy to pick up something fast to eat rather than making a full healthy meal. It was until things assignment that i noticed I eat a lot of more calories than I thought I did. I learned that I eat a lot of protein. Sometimes I eat protein bars because I think they are healthy. Before taking this class I never really payed attention to food labels. I am now a lot more alter while checking food labels. Before this class I would often just get frozen vegetables and then add them to my meals. I learned that refined foods lose all the nutrients. While doing this study, I noticed that I eat a lot more fast food than I should. The more red meat i eat the higher the risk for chronic diseases. The delicious double burger, chocolate cake, vallina shake, greasy fries are all foods that will increase the risk for chronic disease. I learned that I can inmpove my health by counting my calories. I have made changed in my eating habits to try to watch my calorie intakes.Due to this study I am now able to know what to look for in food labels. I now know that too much food containing more than 10% sodium or cholesterol are probably not the best option to chosse from. 2. Edgar Allen Poe s, The Cask Of Amontillado, is a between two enemies. It humorously portrays the foil of Fortunato, as he is led through the catacombs. Poe s humor is dark, sarcastic and very ironic, which quickly becomes a signpost of the tale. Poe sets himself apart from other authors in his works, based on how he depicts and encounters death. It accentuates the notion that at times, your worst enemy will appear as your best friend. Pride is the downfall of every man and the same can be said for Fortunato. â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado†starts out with Montresor, the narrator, saying, â€Å"Fortunato has hurt me a thousands time and i had suffered quietly†¦I promise myself that I would make him pay for this that I would have revenge.†(68).†¦show more content†¦Besides, there is Luchesi-.†Montresor does an excellent job of being Fortunatos’ friend and at the same time convinces him to continue drinking and telling him, â€Å"A draught of th is Medoc will defend us from the damps.†Montresor was not trying to defend either one of them, his only purpose was to place Fortunato into a higher state of drunkenness. Montresor causes Fortunato to become so drunk that while he was being chained to the wall by Montresor, â€Å"He was too much astounded to resist.†â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado†is filled with many ironies and also life lessons; such as know who your real friends are. Fortunato thought his real friend was Montresor when, in reality, Montresor was anything but his friend. Not only did Montresor fake his sincerity towards Fortunato, he was also vengeful and very intelligent in his actions to kill Fortunato. This is a tale about pride and revenge. Among the many ironies of the tale are three which prove quite striking. The first is obvious from the beginning lines: â€Å"The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge. You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that I gave utterance to a threat.†These lines are being delivered by the Narrator, Montressor, to his confessor, an unnamed priest. Diego Rivera An Artist Biography My artist name is Diego Rivera he is a Mexican painter who produced murals on social themes and who ranks one of my countries greatest artists. He was born in Guanajuato and educated at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts , in Mexico City. he studied painting in Europe between 1907 and 1921, becoming familiar with the innovative cubist forms of the French painter Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso. In 1921 Riviera returned to Mexico and took a prominent part in revival of mural painting initiated by artists and sponsored by the government . Believing that art should serve the working people and be readily available to them , he concentrated on painting large frescoes, concerning the history and social problems of Mexico, on the walls of public buldings.His works during 1930s included frescoes the Ministry of Educational Mexico City and in the National Agricultural School in Chapingo. Rivera was an active member of the Mexican Communist party , and he painted murals in the National Palace , Mexico City 1929, and the Palace Cortes , Cuernavaca1930 .In 1929 Riviera married Frida Kahlo who is now considered to have been a leading 20th century Mexican painter. I think what I like the most the murals that he painted I liked how he drew the Indian people their faces the scenery , the palace and his style. Rivieras murals are rich in archeological detail and painted in sharply outlined , linear style. Most of them have clear , three dimensional figures in a shallow space , although a deep spatial extension of landscape appears at the top of some works . Rivera also executed easel paintings and portraits and designed and built his Mexico City house , the Anahuacalli, which is now a museum housing the extensive collection of pre-Columbian art that he left for Mexican people . I liked the water colors that Riviera used for the murals and the way he painted the pictures .I imagine take him a long time to draw the murals and paint them and drawing the faces . I have seen his murals in the walls in Mexico City and I really think is very hard to draw the murals and I also have seen in the museums alot of pictures that Riviera has drawn and I was really impressed with all his work. The thing that I liked the most were the murals that he drew and the painting and how he drew the faces of the people and the different colors of skins of the people . I enjoyed learning about Diego Rivera and also because his from my country.

Imagery on Othello Essay Imagery on OthelloIn William Shakespeares Othello, the use of imagery andmetaphors is significant in conveying meaning as it helps to establish thedramatic atmosphere of the play and reinforce the main themes. Throughthis, the audience is able to grasp a better understanding of the play. Throughout Othello, images relating to poison frequentlyoccur. These references are predominantly made by Iago. This seemsappropriate for Iago who exhibits the characteristics of poison; they beingfatal and deadly. There are several possible explanations to what motivatesIago: being overlooked for being the lieutenant, the belief that Othelloand Cassio had committed adultery with his wife, though this is neverreally proved; class differences present in the society that made him feelinferior and racial differences. This desire for revenge is so great itdoth, like a poisonous mineral, gnaw his inwards. Iagos use oflanguage is a primary weapon in manipulating Othello. By pouring thispestilence into his ear, Iago contaminates his thoughts. Once Othellostarts to doubt Desdemonas fidelity, he is so incredibly driven byjealousy that it leads him to murder her, ironically with poison. Many references are made to animals in the play. Iago usesbeast imagery to express his contempt and to downgrade those he despises. Early in Act 1, he stirs Brabantios anger by using crude images of animalsfornicating to inform him that his daughter and the Moor are now makingthe beast with two backs. Such a metaphor is designed to evoke a strongemotional response. In a soliloquy at the conclusion of Act One, Iago saysIt is engendered. Hell and night / Must bring this monstrous birth to theworlds light. Shakespeare uses the image of a monster being born as ametaphor for the start of Iagos evil scheming. It also becomes evidentthat Othellos mind has been corrupted by Iagos evil handiwork when he toostarts to use the same sort of animal imagery in his speech. In one scene,convinced of his wifes infidelity, Othello loses all self-control cryingout goats and monkeys, animals traditionally considered lascivious. There is also a wealth of heaven and hell imagery in Othello. Iago, who isMachiavellian in nature and revels in tormenting others, can be perceivedas the devil personified. Even he himself acknowledges this when he saysdevils will the blackest sins put onsuggest at first with heavenlyshows / As I do now. Iagos manipulation of Othello causes him to seeDesdemona as devilish; therefore she must be brought to justice. Desdemona, though, is associated with images of light,heaven and purity, thus suggesting her innocence. Even in the last scene asOthello prepares to kill her, he uses a rose as a metaphor for Desdemona. This indicates that her beauty still has an influence over him as well ashis ever present feelings of affection for her. When at last Iago isexposed as the true villain and just before committing suicide, Othello,using another metaphor, compares Desdemona to a pearl that he has thrownaway. This is one of many times where she is referred to as a pricelessjewel. Throughout the play, the contrast between black and white isalso used as a metaphor for the difference between Othello and the Venetiansociety. Several references to Othello as an old black ram and far morefair than black indicate that even though he holds the distinguishedposition of a general, the fact that he is black still makes him theoutsider. Through the use of imagery and metaphors, Shakespeare is ableto generate a considerable impact on the audience positioning them torecognize the full extent of the tragic outcome as a result of Iagostreachery. The use of these images and comparisons effectively defines thenature of each character and explores central themes such as deception,race and jealousy.
